Sleepy Duskywing
Erynnis brizo

Observation date: April 15, 2023
Submitted by: tjay13
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: 6900' elevation; clearing on top east side of Los Alamos Canyon. Seems behavior (hilltop), elevation range (barely), and date (again maybe barely) favor E. burgessi. I tagged you in an iNat discussion regarding the silver overscaling beyond PM band. I see this as slightly more dense scaling than pre PM band, which also seems consistent with E. burgessi. I tend to stay away from intermediates or hybrids. Looks to be Wax Current that is nectar source, not sure that favors either one over another sp. (?)

Coordinator notes: I don't see any reason to think Dreamy on this one. Sleepy (or Burgess' as in BOA and BofNM) are hosted by any oaks, and NM has oaks going up to 9000', where they sometimes occur with Dreamy host aspens, so at that elevation such a photo requires more careful thought. At 7000' on a hilltop, Sleepy/Burgess' is overwhelmingly probable.
