Horace's Duskywing
Erynnis horatius

Observation date: July 30, 2023
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I'm not sure; Bamona notes indicate Juvenal's only has one brood, earlier in the year, so does that make this the Horace's? Spots are too defined to be a roadside skipper, right?
Status: Resident
Verified by: James Steen
Verified date: August 08, 2023
Coordinator notes: This is a male of the species. Duskywings are tricky. This was either a male Wild Indigo or the female Horace's Duskywing. On the edge of hindwings, the Wild Indigo Duskywing has two rows of very small uniform spots as where Horance's does not. Juvenal's tend to be a lighter brown, as where this specimen is a rich dark brown. Thank you! JAMES STEEN
