Hummingbird Clearwing
Hemaris thysbe

Observation date: August 03, 2023
Submitted by: Beavercreekguy
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I spotted one next to my cabin and then about 30 minutes later I spotted three more and then again a couple of days later. This was incredible to me since I've only seen one Hummingbird Hawk Moth ever before in my entire life anywhere. I spotted them in the exact same flower bed that I saw the first one back in I think it was 2018. They seem to love phlox because this is what they were pollinating both times I observe them. I have a number of pictures to submit. If possible. I also have a few videos to submit. It was 73° F , there was no precipitation and the wind was 9 mph coming from the northwest. They were buzzing from one flocks to the next and did not seem to be particularly bothered by my photographing them at close range.
