Common Wood-Nymph
Cercyonis pegala

Observation date: September 10, 2023
Submitted by: schaarschmidt
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The patch surrounding the forward two eyes on the forewings were white, instead of the cream yellow that I see on most the Common Wood Nymphs in Hamilton and surrounding counties. The butterfly looked fresh so it doesn't appear to be due to wear.
Status: Resident
Verified by: James Steen
Verified date: September 11, 2023
Coordinator notes: This is form "Alope". The patch color can be variable. TN is dominated by Cercyonis p. pegala form "Alope". Thank you! JAMES STEEN
