Observation notes: found about a half dozen of these probably more flying low around a field of asters. getting nectar from a small white annual flower. i was following one to try to get a photo when it fluttered around a bush. in the bush was this little butterfly flapping its wings vigorously. it may have been a fresh hatch as it was not ready to fly yet, got a few photo's before it finally flew away. lots of asters in the area, also pale swallowtail, elfin, a green colored hs, buckeye, hedgerow , ladies, sisters, lots of black sage blooming cool day low sixties steady wind mostly clear sky! coastal sage giving way to chaparral, chamise oak scrub deer weed lots of asters on the trail edges and in clearings. lots of mistletoe did not see gph that i was looking for. great purple went unseen again
