Observation notes: This is my 2nd record of this species on the ranch, but the older picture was not worth submitting. I found this bug just north of the ranch house feeding on a Asclepias asperula (Antelope Horns - Milkweed). I have dozens of these in flower and most covered with Gray Hairstreaks. I noticed this species feeding on one of these plants and took several pictures. A close up and one showing a comparison to the Gray Hairstreak. I knew the species from previous sightings, but consulted with my local expert (Terry Doyle) and he added the sub-species extension.

Coordinator notes: I think there is a whole complex of subspecies and forms of S. favonius. This type is listed on BAMONA as Northern Oak Hairstreak. S. favonius ontario. I do see the use of autolycus as a separate subspecies on bugguide.net, but even then see ontario used there. SAT
