Observation notes: note from Jerry Powell: I believe this is a pyraloid moth, Lineodes elcodes --- not related to the plume moths you mentioned. This is an introduced species, described from Mexico originally and discovered in CA in the early 2000s. I has been reared from larvae feeding on night jessimine, Cestrum nocturnum. Similarly, larvae of a widespread, presumned native spcies, are found in leaf roller on several nightshades.
