Observation notes: 8:08 am still a little dew on butterfly and leaves, Salt grass in background is host plant. We Saw three of these in this area flying early but not to active to get them to pose. Far south end of San Clemente by President Nixon's old house Nick named the western White House! Seeing these all along the Beach from Dana Point to San Clemente, where ever there is host plant and nectar available. Heavy fog in late June provided plants moisture along the coast to get a good growth spurt! This Little skipper goes mostly undetected along the beach. Very easy to find when we get enough rain. Very fast flier hardly stops at all except for nectar and a little sunning. Will go to many types of nectar such as heliotrope, statice, beach rocket, buckwheat, Lantana. Seems like anything thats available. Buckwheat and Coast Golden Bush seem to be favorites along with Heliotrope. Best time to photograph is early morning or late afternoon.
