Snowberry Clearwing
Hemaris diffinis

Observation date: September 05, 2017
Date notes: I found a purple backed green caterpillar wandering around inside my workplace. How it made it that far is pretty amazing since employees and customers are in and out all day.

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Top half of this pretty large caterpillar is purple while it's sides and underbody are green with black spots. It has suction cup like legs on it's back end and thinner insect like legs on it's front end. It does not have any visible hair but seems to be able to retract it's head into it's body. It has a pointed horn like attribute on it's rear end that seems to start purple from it's body and continue into a blue then green point. It has a worm like textured body with a similar visual appearance.
