Observation notes: The moth flew into the open house. It was hot, late on a partly cloudy morning. The air was clear after recent smoke from a nearby forest fire (Sardines Canyon Fire). It landed on the calendar where we photographed it with a ruler held next to it against the wall. It amazed us for its size, 17 cm. We carried the calendar outdoors to the shady side of the house whereupon it immediately flew off, circled around, and landed on nettles.
