Observation notes: The Hummingbird moth zoomed past me to the Purple Wave Petunias planted in a barrel, near some wild Phlox. I observed the moth for several minutes as it sipped nectar from the Petunias. The moth stayed near the flowers for about 10 minutes before flying off into the shelter-belt. It was a hot day and clouds were forming in the west. We had strong winds during the day and heavy rain later that night. I suspect it may have blown in on the wind. This was the second moth of this type that I have seen in my life!
