Ruddy Copper
Lycaena rubidus

Observation date: June 14, 2018
Submitted by: COA1955
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Hello Mike! This beauty was seen nectaring on Coreopsis. Am wondering if they use the abundant Rumex crispus as a larval host, two came up in an off-corner of the garden so have left them for now. They should bloom next year and the dried seed stalks can be used for decorations. Thanks for all your help. ~ Char

Coordinator notes: Hi Char, Yes, the Ruddy Copper (very brilliant butterfly) and the host is certainly Rumex most everywhere in its range. Mike
