Observation notes: Eight of these seen temp at least 68, Felt like 80 in sheltered spots in canyons. Saw these in two different canyons, excellent year for these last year and a good start to this year. The wear on these, the numbers of these very high for the Whole summer/fall/winter suggests along with the wear on most of these that they Made it through Dec and into Jan. One seemed very fresh I seem to have deleted it by mistake oops. Seven adult species seen Checkered white, Southern Dog, Sleepy Orange 3-4 or more Wrights 8+ Leda 5-6 or more, Great Purple 1-2+ Only got photo's of one that finally came to nectar. Painted Lady Singletons spread through the desert Many larva of Variable Checkerspot Only out a dusk after birds stopped hunting Probably roosting. Saw none of these larva on same bushes earlier in the day even though we searched for them on the same shrubs! will post larva. Must hide at base of plants in leaves and other organic matter this might protect them from freezing?
