Observation notes: Partly cloudy, 74 degrees, quite breezy. The butterfly was sitting on a mullein leaf, its attitude seemed tipped slightly forward. Another of the same kind was fluttering close around it, apparently trying to mate. After about 5 minutes, they fluttered away. Nearby were white oak, red oak, maple, beech, sycamore, redbud, dogwood, cherry; honeysuckle, poison ivy, grape vines; cutleaf toothwort, vinca minor, grasses, last year's dead stalks of ironweed and joe pye weed.
