Yuma Skipper
Ochlodes yuma

Observation date: August 13, 2020
Submitted by: Christian.Nunes
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Of the ~ 5 individuals seen, most were worn except for one fresher individual that was nectaring and raiting on a patch of western white clematis about 50' above the creek (first two images). Others raiting and flaiting along the creek (two individuals show in last three images; one on joe pye weed inflorescence, and the other on the head of a timothy grass). All flying mid-morning. Plenty of what looked like native common reed (Phragmites australis americanus) in the area. Ochlodes sylvanoides was also flying along the creek, but their fresh condition, smaller size, stigma pattern, and creamy post median HW bands helped differentiate between their plainer cousins.
