Observation notes: My first ever sighting... as a matter of fact, I'd never even heard of them! A Facebook friend ID'd it from photos I posted, and Hummingbird Moth made sense to me because at first glance the colorfulness and the way it moved had made me think it was a small hummingbird. After a better look, I knew the antennae and no beak meant it was some type of insect. Next I wondered if it was some unusual type of queen bee, since all the other insects on the Monarda patch were bees.
