Observation notes: Butterfly was seen in our yard in rural Pittsburg, IL basking on a patch of bare dirt. It was very hot and humid. Partly cloudy. Heavy rains the day before the sighting. The butterfly was not noticeably frightened of human interaction and stayed close to us for half an hour or more.
