Observation notes: Observed as part of an officially permitted Lepidoptera survey of Fishers Peak State Park. This area is not open to the public. Weather was sunny and 62F, with a brisk south breeze. ~80 arctics were seen. They concentrate on low spots among the Festuca dominated grasslands growing on volcanic basalt soils. About half-and-half very worn vs. fresh. A hail storm on the night of May 22nd-23rd damaged many, but the moisture also likely spurred an emergence of fresh individuals.
