Observation date: July 05, 2020
Submitted by: nicholenaweber
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The individual was very active and traveled to and from the many common milkweed plants (Asclepias syriaca) present at the site. The day was sunny and the temperature was approximately 29 degrees Celcius.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Difficult to tell with 100% certainty without ventral views, however the black band on the inner margin of the hindwing is at the very least intermediate in size and definitely too thick in appearance for P. glaucus. Timing and location would favor the “Midsummer Tiger,” which is characterized as P. canadensis x glaucus, but is possibly a whole new species. I’ll continue to update sightings accordingly as new research comes out. -jmgesell
