Orange Cracker
Hamadryas fornax

Observation date: September 01, 2022
Submitted by: Charlie Doggett
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: On the same forest trail that I saw the Orange Cracker, called Jungle Trail, Xandari Nature Resort, Tacacori, Alajuela, Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Status: Unknown

Verified date: September 10, 2022
Coordinator notes: At first I had labeled this a "Red Cracker" but later a BAMONA Coordinator marked it mislabeled and said "This is an Orange Cracker. Red on leading edge is only found on Orange. Also, White FW bands are wrong for Red, and the HW spots are too round." I obviously have a lot to learn about butterflies! :-) --- WHAT I SAID AT FIRST LABELING: I know it is a Red Cracker because (1) It is mostly blue which I know is crazy! (2) There is a red spot on the forward edge of wing. (3) The white band on each wing is made of multiple pieces with curvy edges, and (4) the blue circles along the back of the wings have some slightly pointing forward. I was basing that on the info in the Glassberg book.
