Observation date: September 11, 2022
Date notes: My son Jesse Kytta spotted this unique caterpillar of what we believe to be a Great Leopard Moth larva.
Submitted by: AKytta
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This larva was spotted crawling on the ground in our country lot on the lawn near an ash tree and spruce trees. It was a clear fair weather. It acted similar to other wooly caterpillars by curling into a ball when we got close. Then it opened up and began crawling as we stepped away. We have not seen it before and looked up the description and believed it to be a Great Leopard Moth Larva. This is farther west that other sightings. It is in Blowers Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota.
