Observation notes: In a pine forest regrowing since the fire 10 years ago with Gambel's Oak and New Mexico Locust with few pine trees and some open areas left.

Coordinator notes: probably some Fendler's buckbrush there, too, given the presence of this butterfly species. Mournful and Pacuvius both have a white HW fringe. Mournful has a different arrangement of white on the ventral hindwing margin (inside the fringe). there is enough of the dorsal forewing showing to reveal the smallish coral/salmon colored patch(es) that are diagnostic for Pacuvius.
