Observation notes: Monte Cristo campground again we are also from calif. I grew up in Walnut Creek east Bay Area. We are in San Clemente, ca. now so I will soon run out of things to post from Utah God country. The High Sierra is also Crazy good for butterflies. I'm sure that you know all the spots. most of these species were from the clearing on the edge of the campground.

Coordinator notes: This is Speyeria zerene platina. I'm originally from Huntington Beach, Orange County - same county you are in now in CA. I miss it. Yes the Sierra was rich with butterflies. I normally camped at Troy Meadow Campground in Tulare County, just under 8000FT. We always came in from the east (desert) side back then. A VERY steep grade dirt/gravel road off of Hwy 395. Then always departed west thru Sherman Pass where I always hoped to find Parnassius clodius baldur but never did. Ken Davenport will ID your CA butterflies. I've never met him but back in the early 1990s I wrote Ken, we didn't have internet yet, and he sent me a great checklist of butterflies in that area with a hand drawn map where to find various species. I still have that list from him. Thanks for the interesting submissions from Utah Robert, JAMES STEEN
