Oleander Hawk-moth
Daphnis nerii

Observation date: March 08, 2011
Submitted by: smithval
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Location: Kihei, Maui, HI. Currently sunny, last 3 days were over-cast/light rains. Have three specimens in (what is left) of my gardenia plant. I believe they have also eaten some of my bouganvilla, but this is an assumption. Two on the plant are green with white spots. There is also a 3rd specimen - brown - laying on the potting soil. Not sure if the brown caterpillar is alive or dead, haven't seen it move, but the other two haven't moved much. I will continue to watch them.
