Coordinator notes: According to Wagner and Giles in "Caterpillars of Eastern Forests" The red-humped oakworm (S. canicosta) is similar to white-headed prominent (S. albifrons), in which black and white dorsal stripes are more similar in width; whereas in S. canicosta the black stripes are wider than white. This is easier to see when the caterpillars are side by side.
