Tobacco Budworm Moth
Chloridea virescens

Observation date: September 04, 2011
Date notes: That is the first day I saw the caterpillar. However, I check on him every day. He moves around the plant. I took the photo this morning, 9/09/11.

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The caterpillar is living on two purple Angelonia (summer snapdragon). It moves from one Angelonia to the other. I have observed it every day for the past 5 days. It has been sunny and warm (75-85 degrees) this past week. It is always on the flowers and I think it is eating them; I have never observed it on the leaves.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: This is either virescens or Helicoverpa zea. David Wagner of U Conn thinks it is virescens. Thanks, Kelly
