Subfamily: Macroglossinae
Identification: Abdomen has distinct black and tan bands. Forewing upperside is brown with a tan band along the inner margin and a thin tan streak in the middle of the wing. Hindwing upperside is red-orange with short black bands along the veins at the outer margin.
Wing Span: 2 3/4 - 3 1/4 inches (7 - 8.3 cm).
Life History: Caterpillars pupate in cocoons spun in litter on the ground.
Flight: . Two flights in Florida from January-March and July-September.
Caterpillar Hosts: Various plants in the dogbane family (Apocynaceae) including Echites.
Adult Food: Flower nectar.
Habitat: Not reported.
Range: Southern Brazil and northern Arizona north to south Florida.
Conservation: Not usually required.
