Observation notes: if you can identify this, I will try to find it again and take closer photos, for your gallery. It was mudding, in the middle desert area of Santa Barbara County, CA. It is smaller than a Blue or Skipper. Side view has been highlighted to assist with viewing it. There are many oaks nearby, native CA grasses, and the present climate is severe drought. The green grass is present because there is a tiny bit of water leaking from a nearby water trough where wild animals come to drink. I do have video, but it's not great. Thank you very much. I have spent hours searching several butterfly sights trying to I.D. it.
