Genista Broom Moth
Uresiphita reversalis

Observation date: August 28, 2014
Submitted by: mhoward
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Numerous caterpillars feeding on a rare plant species, Guadalupe mescalbean (Dermatophyllum guadalupense, Fabaceae). Plant is expected to be highly toxic with quinonlizidine alkaloids (other species in this genus contain QAs, but not yet documented in this species). Toxicity seems to fit the ecology of Utetheisa.
