Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Observed at the Claremont Colleges' Bernard Field Station in an area of mostly native annuals including Amsinckia intermedia (Common Fiddleneck), Cryptantha sp., and Lupinus bicolor (Miniature Lupine) mixed with some non-native grasses. Weather was sunny, warm (80°F) and somewhat windy (6 gusting to 12 mph). Butterfly was flitting about and landing on various plants and flowers, esp. Fiddleneck. When viewed from above in flight, the upperside of the wings had an orange tint, with a wide black border, which shows through in the second photo.
