Coordinator notes: Since we have Juniper and no native pine in Lincoln County, this is likely to be Cudonigera houstonana rather than Choristoneura pinus. The two cannot be distinguished without looking at other characters such as genitalia (Dang 1985, Dang 1992), mitochondrial DNA (Sperling & Hickey 1995), or to observe behavioral characteristics such as host plant preference, pheromone attraction, or larval diapause.
