Gorgon Copper
Lycaena gorgon

Observation date: May 11, 2015
Submitted by: Nancy Asquith
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Although this butterfly looks very similar to the one I just submitted, upperwing markings that were round on that one look linear in this. Less orange on the upperwing too, although that could just be wear-and-tear. Previous butterfly was near a male gorgon copper, but the underwing markings did not seem to match.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: These appear to be females, easy to ID in hand or at the site; difficult in these photos. Coppers are dimorphic (males and females don't look alike) and quite variable-Ken Davenport
