Observation notes: Seemed to be warming itself on the bricks, but we were afraid a child or person may disturb it, so we waved to the shrubbery nearby. It didn't fly away, seemed tired or ill. This was in Sacramento, California. The woman who took the photo said she'd seen them in Washington state. Lived here 50 years, never seen one. It's about 6 inches wide. Absolutely beautiful, picture doesn't do it justice.
