Robinson's Underwing
Catocala robinsoni

Observation date: August 01, 2016
Submitted by: D. Dodd
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: myristica has host tree of Nutmeg Hickory, which grows on chalky soil--which isn't around here. robinsonii supposedly has walnut as host--and there is a black walnut tree two houses down.
Status: Resident
Verified by: stomlins701
Verified date: September 11, 2016
Coordinator notes: This looks just like the C. robinsonii figure on MPG, and based on foodplant, this would be the species expected. Nutmeg hickory is only found in a few places in southeast, and Kirkman and Brown's "Native Trees of the Southeast" does not show this tree species in north AL. SAT
