California Pyrausta Moth
Pyrausta californicalis

Observation date: June 14, 2017
Submitted by: Barbara Robeson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Scores of them the last few weeks or longer, in my backyard garden, fluttering around plants and flowers - Matricaria in my photo. Active during the day and the evenings. Although they fly freely on their own, they often "fly out" when disturbed by my watering. Just under 1/2 inch across open wings. Matricaria blossom is 3/4 inch across. Typical warm June weather in Danville, Contra Costa County, California. High on June 14th was 89, last few days have been high 90's and low 100's.
