Observation notes: Perched on beargrass. Butterfly was originally hiding in a pine sapling along the trail and flushed from it when walking by. It settled in several places before being able to photograph. The area is a burned-over forest recovering from wildfire, now a meadow with lupine, paintbrush, aster, and other wildflowers.
