Observation notes: Sunny, 86 degrees, light breeze, a little humid. The butterfly was resting in the sun on the stem of a weed, not eating. Nearby were oak, maple, sycamore, cherry, locust, beech, sweet gum, sour gum, dogwood, buckeye, multiflora rose, goldenrod, wingstem, joe pye weed, boneset, tall thistle, lobelia, queen anne's lace, mouse ears, honeysuckle, poison ivy, grape vines.
