Observation notes: I found this moth on the cement outside my garage. We had very unusual weather for April. Thunderstorms with wind, hail and a good amount of rain. The moth had a bit of spiderweb on him and a slight tear on his wing. Since he wasn’t moving much but alive, l carefully scooped him up and placed him in a butterfly enclosure and layed out mango and oranges until the storm passed. I then placed him outside where he slowly crawled out, fluttered his wings for 10 minutes and flew off. From my research it seems this species is not usually found in California.
