Observation notes: My kids and I collected three green caterpillars from our Peppermint plants, though after only a day they each made a chrysalis. Approximately two weeks later two of them hatched into surprisingly beautiful scarlet and dark brown moths. The third will likely hatch a day or two later since it made a chrysalis a day after the others. It has been very hot in our area, into the high 80s, so our home (where we kept their containers) was in the 70s or hotter during the day. As for the caterpillar that took a day longer to form a chrysalis, it walked quickly around its container seeming to look for something, and it even tried hiding behind where the saranwrap was rubberbanded to the container. I figured it was disatisfied with the food or looking for adequate shelter to hide in, so I gave it more mint leaves and a petunia, but it hid shortly thereafter.
