Observation notes: Walking up to a patch of thistle which is known to be excellent for butterflies at this time of year, this bright orange, long-winged butterfly set down on the rough road. We stayed after the butterfly flew and saw it nectaring on thistles. Other species observed include Western Tiger Swallowtail, Weidemeyer's Admiral, Painted Lady, Northern White-Skipper and Echo Azure. Weather: sunny, light breeze, temperatures in the low 70s (estimated).
