One-eyed sphinx
Smerinthus cerisyi

Observation date: August 17, 2018
Submitted by: tshade
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The day had been warm and sunny and the early evening was mild. This moth had fallen off a french door, when opened. I noticed it and kneeled down to look at it on the brick patio and it flashed very vibrant pink colored parts of it's wings, with designs that look like large eyes.....no doubt a defense mechanism. (Not a great defense against human, clearly, as it further caught my attention)
