California Tortoiseshell
Nymphalis californica

Observation date: January 26, 2019
Submitted by: VanzeeGirl
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: The weather was rainy and very cold for a few days and we left the butterfly. By Monday, we saw it was still alive and took it in. It is too severely damaged to be released, including only having three legs, and the majority of its left wing is gone. But the butterfly seems happy and lively when in the sunlight and goes still when the sun vanzishes.
