Checkered White
Pontia protodice

Observation date: July 31, 2019
Submitted by: gregslak
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: On a dry brushy hillside mixed with Cliff Aster plants, I could only get within 30 to 40 feet of a butterfly that I thought at the time to be a Checkered White. Unfortunately, I got only one shot and couldn't zoom in before it flew off. Though the photo is not high quality, I can see a good deal more patterning than I thought at the time. It seemed to be about the size of a Checkered White, or perhaps just a tiny bit larger. The ventral hindwing had a distinctly yellowish hue and heavy patterning.
