Observation notes: Weather: Clear, sunny, warm. Host plant: Stem of witch hazel. Nearby species include maple saplings, Golden raintree, sassafras sapling.
Caterpillars inactive unless disturbed. They recoil when alarmed, then freeze. When prodded the seem to 'attack' the intrusion as if to 'bite".
Approximately 1" - 1.25" length x 1/8" diameter
