Observation notes: Walking toward a small shaded oak grove, I had just reached the corner of a parking lot adjacent to a picnic area still damp from sprinklers, when a flash of orange caught my eye. I stopped to watch and was rewarded with an opportunity to observe this California Sister puddling. The behavior continued for several minutes before an increasing number of bees forced out the solitary butterfly.
