Observation notes: This moth was photographed by Duane Dyer (a visitor to Craters of the Moon) who asked me to identify it. The photo was taken at the HWY 20/26 Big Lost River Rest Area in Butte County. The moth was trapped in a spider web. I had no luck with identification so I submitted it to Bugguide.net. Bob Biagi (contributing editor at Bugguide.net) identified it with this comment: "Hulstina formosata, Pectinate antennae = male, According to MPG, this is the only species in the genus that reaches Idaho. This may or may not be accurate, (probably not) but BOLD has two specimens from a location very close to this. Other species in the genus/tribe are very similar. However, I think that this is most likely your species. This is a new species for the guide."
