Observation notes: I grow a number of salvias in my hummingbird garden in Middletown, Ohio. This year, these moths have multiplied exponentially with each brood. They seem to feed exclusively on blooms and flower buds, and I would guess that the bloom production of both annual and perennial salvias in my yard is down more than fifty percent versus previous seasons. The caterpillars in this image are feeding on the blooms and flower buds of salvia coccinea.
