Coordinator notes: The Common Wood-Nymph (Cercyonis pegala) is one of the rarest butterflies in southern California, found only along the Kern/Tulare County line with a very few from Santa Barbara County. The Kern/Tulare County subspecies (australosierra) may be gone now because of ranch management but they were common when I discovered them in 1997. The Santa Barbara County ones may be similar, but very few have been collected, too few to compare-Ken Davenport
