Observation notes: Cloudy day with moderate though sporadic winds; approximately 75 degrees F. Specimen spent 45 minutes perched on water oak leaves approximately 6 feet off groun along a sewer line easement that is partially maintained. Occasional flights during observation period though consistently returning close to if not to the same leaf, always oriented with the head facing east toward a large beaver impounded wetland. No aphids were observed on surrounding vegetation. Wings were maintained in folded position. Small bees approaching the specimens would result in the brief flights where the butterfly would never leave a distance of approximately 30 ft of the perch location. Observed for approximately 45 minutes.
