Observation notes: This individual landed approx. 3 meters ahead of us on the dirt trail we we walking on. It had been dueling with another three Painted Lady butterflies for quite some time. One of the other butterflies landed on the trail behind us. This one stayed for awhile sunning itself. The sun was in the western sky. This individual was pristine looking, while the one behind us looked quite tattered. It flew away before I could get any photographs.
